Fujitsu, Nihon Sun Microsystems and Fujitsu Users Group Agree to Promote Java-based Systems Development for Mission Critical Systems
Tokyo, July 8, 1998 --- Fujitsu Limited, Nihon Sun Microsystems and LS-KEN (the Leading-edge Systems Users Group) have agreed to work closely to cooperate in the development of systems, including mission critical systems, using Java computing technology. Together with LS-KEN, the users group that includes more than 300 corporate customers, Fujitsu and Nihon Sun will jointly promote activities to further enhance Java technology, solve current issues and expand the application areas for Java.Fujitsu has been actively marketing software services based on Java computing technology, while Sun has strived in its development of Java computing technology and applications. To further accelerate the expansion of Java applications, the two companies will share and efficiently combine necessary technologies, human resources and know-how and address customer needs.
Members of the Leading-edge Systems Users group will advise the two companies on corporate systems development and operational requirements from the user's point of view. Specific activities include setting up case study groups, joint forums and technology exchange meetings to share Java's advanced application know-how and up-to-date technology information. The joint announcement, involving user companies is the industry's first in promoting activities to further enhance Java technology.
Since its inception in 1995, Java has grown to become widely accepted in the industry. Now, in the systems development of mission critical areas, the time has come for implementing Java computing technology. The joint cooperation of Fujitsu, Nihon Sun Microsystems and Leading-edge Systems Users group will bring Java technology into the next level of advancement.

The "Leading-edge Systems Users Group" is a users group of 318 Japanese corporations from a wide range of industries that use Fujitsu hardware, software or services.
