Fujitsu Adds New High-end Models to Global Server Line-up
- Top-of-the-line model boasts maximum performance of over 1,000 MIPS; ideal large-scale servers for the network era -
Tokyo, February 2, 1999 ---Fujitsu Limited today added six new high-end models to its GS8800 line-up of Global Servers. The new models use leading edge 0.22-micron Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) technology, with the most powerful system boasting maximum performance of over 1000 Million Instructions Per Second (MIPS).
In today's dynamic interconnected business world, computer systems are a vital element of the social and business infrastructure, and they are expected to accommodate and ever-increasing number of users and vast amounts of data on a global scale. Accordingly, high reliability and the power to process large amounts of information are more important than ever before.
To satisfy such needs, Fujitsu's has succeeded in boosting uniprocessor speed by up to 1.5 times that of processors used in current systems. Moreover, the top-of-the-line model, a Tightly Coupled Multi-Processor (TCMP) configuration with 12 CPUs, achieves maximum performance in excess of 1000 MIPS, 1.7 times that of the current generation's top-line model. In addition, the new models provide multi-cluster support for up to 16 clusters (twice as many as in the previous generation) and, for improved reliability, they accommodate four System Storage Units (SSUs), up from two currently.
Available first in Japan, the new GS8800 models will be sold worldwide through Fujitsu's international group companies. Effective prices and delivery dates for overseas markets will be available through local representatives in each area.
